What Does the Canadian Dental Care Plan Cover?

The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) offers a subsidy to Canadian residents without dental benefits and an adjusted household income under $90,000. Coverage includes essential dental services for eligible individuals, particularly those with disabilities, children under 18, and seniors aged 65+. Services that may be eligible for coverage under the CDCP, when recommended by your dentist, include:

routine exams and X-ray procedures

fillings and root canal procedures

oral surgeries, such as extractions

teeth cleaning (scaling), polishing, fluoride treatments, and sealants

full and partial removable dentures

Certain treatments may require pre-approval. Your dentist must seek approval before proceeding based on their professional judgment. Before starting any treatment, your dentist will confirm whether it qualifies for coverage under the CDCP. For more details on services covered, refer to the CDCP Dental Benefits Guide.

How Much Does the Canadian Dental Care Plan Cost?

The cost depends on your adjusted family net income and the specific dental services you require.

Coverage and Co-Payments:

The CDCP covers a significant portion of dental care costs, with co-payments based on your adjusted family net income:

Adjusted family net income below $70,000

The CDCP covers 100% of eligible oral health care service costs at the established fees. You will not have any co-payment but may need to pay additional charges if the service costs exceed the CDCP fees.

Adjusted family net income between $80,000 and $89,999

The CDCP covers 40% of eligible oral health care service costs at the established fees. You will be responsible for a 60% co-payment of the CDCP fees and may face additional charges if the service costs exceed these fees.

Adjusted family net income between $70,000 and $79,999

The CDCP covers 60% of eligible oral health care service costs at the established fees. You will be responsible for a 40% co-payment of the CDCP fees and may face additional charges if the service costs exceed these fees.

Additional charges:

If your oral health care provider charges more than the CDCP-established fees or if you agree to receive services not covered by the CDCP, you will need to pay the difference directly to the provider. Still curious? Get more insights here.

How Does the Canadian Dental Care Plan Help Low-Income Families and Seniors?

The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) supports low-income families and seniors by covering a portion of dental care costs, including treatments like dentures. This financial assistance ensures eligible individuals can access necessary dental services, helping them maintain their oral health and quality of life without bearing the full financial burden of denture-related treatments.

The Role of the Canadian Dental Care Plan in Promoting Preventive Oral Health

The CDCP encourages preventive oral health by making essential services, such as denture fittings and maintenance, more accessible to eligible individuals. By reducing out-of-pocket expenses, the program allows seniors and low-income families to receive timely care, preventing more serious dental issues and improving the longevity and function of dentures.

At Canadian Denture Centre, we assist eligible individuals in accessing fullpartial, and immediate dentures under the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP), ensuring affordable and comprehensive denture solutions. Get in touch with us for more information.
